When Syracuse recruited him, Diamond Ferri never envisioned playing defense.
"I like tailback, like to run the ball, like to run over people," Ferri still admits.
But these days, the 22-year-old junior from Everett, Mass., who ran for 4,500 yards in high school, runs the ball no more. Instead, SU's strong safety runs to the ball - knocking down ball-carriers and passes coming his way.
Ferri's conversion, on the football field and in the classroom, was neither quick nor easy.
