FLORENCE (FNS) -- Lower attendance marked the 29th Pitti Immagine Filati yarn show, but exhibitors were nevertheless optimistic about the new upgraded directions they were taking for their businesses.

The three-day show last week featured yarns for the fall-winter 1992-93 season. About 6,600 buyers representing 2,500 companies were there, a 20 percent drop in attendance from 1990. Only 79 Americans visited, compared with 126 last year.

Exhibitors said although the numbers were lower, it was the quality of the buyers that saved the show.
