There are no two ways about it, 24p is hot. Or, to put it another way, 24p is cool, so maybe there are two ways about it. In any case, there are two parts to it: 24 frames per second and progressive scanning. Before we run hot or cold on the whole 24p thing, it's worth looking at these two aspects separately.
24 fps: Frame rate of the stars
Clearly if one's goal is to transfer to film, shooting at 24 fps is a no-brainer. The video frames transfer directly to film in a 1:1 relationship; there's no odd motion judder and resolution loss from trying to interpolate 24 frames of film from 60 fields of video.
