Perkins Engines will begin manufacturing its 400 series diesels in the United States next summer. The engines will be built in Griffin, Ga., with full production expected before the end of 2004. The manufacturing facility, the first for Perkins in North America, is expected to eventually produce as many as 60,000 engines annually.
The new manufacturing operations will be called Perkins Shibaura Engines LLC, a separate legal entity but managed operationally as part of Perkins Engines Company Ltd. Perkins will hold a 70 percent share of the new venture and Japan's lshikawajima Shibaura Machinery Company Ltd. (ISM) 30 percent.
