Sometimes backfilling is just about impossible. Ongoing construction can't be interrupted, or the site is congested or inaccessible.
Such problems led Richard Dunlop and Robert Griffin to develop a system that uses compressed air to deliver a variety of materials--sand and gravel, crushed rock and base materials, rock dust and decomposed granite, and amended topsoil--up to 450 feet from the site access point. Dunlop, a concrete contractor in Southern California for 30 years, says the system is especially useful in hard-to-reach areas.
