North County hotels suffer biggest drop in occupancy
Experts blame recession, supply, lack of industry
North County hotel occupancy rates are going south.
While occupancies at hotels throughout the county have dropped roughly 1.5 percent so far this year, the North County coastal rate has fallen off 16 percent.
"It is probably the poorest performing market area in San Diego," said Scott Smith, manager of the local office of accounting firm Pannell Kerr Forster.
