When you crave a comfort food do you crave steak or ice cream? An academic article in the September 2003 issue of the journal Physiology and Behavior indicates that comfort foods can include both snack-type foods and meal-related foods. However, the article also reveals that the desire for comfort foods can vary dramatically among men and women.
Two separate surveys of 1,436 North Americans conducted by researchers from the Food and Brand Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that America's favorite comfort foods are: potato chips (23%), ice cream (14%), cookies (12%), chocolate (11%), pizza or pasta (11%), steak/burgers (9%), casseroles ...
