Nov. 4--AMHERST, Va.--A local preservation group has been awarded a $206,000 grant to bolster its effort to relocate and renovate the old Amherst Train Station.
Marlene Fitzgerald, a member of Friends of Amherst Train Station, was notified that the group had received the VDOT-administered grant last week.
"We're very excited," she said Monday. "We've been working on this grant a long time."
The group hopes to rescue the train station and move it from its present Depot Street location in the town of Amherst to a new location near the intersection ...
