In regard to your editorial "When Herbal Medicine Turns Nasty," (May, 2003) the following observations should be noted:
Merck 13. Methamphetamine can be produced in three ways:
1) reducing ephedrine or pseudopehedrine;
2) reducing the condensation product of benzyl methyl ketone and methylamine;
3) synthesis from d-phenylalanine.
4) 18 trade names are given to this compound
