In an effort to determine if popular media claims about the link between antiperspirant use and breast cancer held merit, researchers looked at the use of products for underarm perspiration by 813 women with breast cancer (age range, 20 to 74) and by 793 matched controls as part of a population-based study of breast cancer risk. Breast cancer was not associated with any of the activities analyzed: antiperspirant use, deodorant use, or application of antiperspirant or deodorant within 1 hour of shaving.
