Recently I was complaining to an acquaintance that I felt as if I were running a Convention and Visitors Bureau for ladybugs. They are having meetings in the corner of every window in my house, doing aerobatics around the lights at night. I have to watch where I walk for fear of crushing a downed flier.

"They certainly don't seem like ladies to me," I finished.

"Well, actually, they probably aren't," said my new friend. "Real ladybugs have little black dots on their backs. But there are impostor ladybugs which are identical except for the fact that they have plain backs. No dots. They are plentiful this time of year."
