Augsburg College has plenty to boast about. The Minneapolis school's enrollment, at 1,650 students, is at an all-time high. Its weekend college for adult learners has been a success, growing in 15 years from 75 students to almost 900.
And last month, Augsburg alumnus Peter Agre, the son of an Augsburg professor, was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry.
But in the words of Augsburg's president, the school has suffered from "a chronic case of militant modesty." Market research showed that Augsburg's recognition among prospective students was almost nil.
