About half of America's new mothers received conflicting advice about child-rearing while they were pregnant, and after the baby was born, they followed their own instincts more than advice from any other source, a new study suggests.

The Bright Beginnings Savvy Mom's Survey, commissioned by Bright Beginnings infant formula, was conducted in October by the Southeastern Institute of Research. The study involved 847 women with Internet access who had given birth within the prior 12 months. Approximately 40 percent gave birth to their first child.
