Solvay Engineered Polymers, part of Solvay SA, is targeting niche areas of the estimated 100-kilotonne-per-annum (ktpa) global market for thermoplastic vulcanisates (TPV). The market is currently dominated by Advanced Elastomer Systems' Santoprene brand.
Solvay currently sells two families of TPV. The first, Nexprene, is made by Thermoplastic Rubber Systems Inc. of Shirley, Massachusetts, which has granted Solvay exclusive rights to sell the material into the automotive sector.
