The Cincinnati Stock Exchange was founded in Cincinnati as a regional stock exchange in 1885 and operated out of offices in Chicago since 1995. But the exchange, the nation's first all-electronic stock trading system, last week severed its identification with its founding city, changing its name to the National Stock Exchange.

"We are proud of our Cincinnati origin, but we are no longer a regional exchange," David Colker, president and CEO, said in prepared statement. "It is time for the exchange to adopt a name that reflects its national reach rather than the physical location of its birthplace."
