IT STARTED off as an ordinary day, but then developed into one of those Titanic experiences that seem suddenly to emerge from nowhere.
There I was steering my tugboat,minding my own tanker, when suddenly the look-out shouted: ``Icebergdeadahead!''
Rather surprising really, since I was (as we sea salts say) abaft Tranmere oil terminal at the time. The Ice Age apart, when did you last see icebergs on Wirral,other than in a greengrocers?
I thought that I handled the situation rather well, blowing the emergency signal on the ship's whistle and ordering the first mate to escort all women and children to the lifeboats,in ...
