On Aug. 1, 2003, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced the availability of a new database intended to provide information on the potential health effects of more than 2,000 ingredients contained in over 4,000 "common" household products. The National Library of Medicine's (NLM) Household Products Database (HPD) is available on the internet at http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov. This Legal Outlook article briefly discusses this new database and its implications.
