What was looking like a comfortable victory for the Emeralds quickly became a much scarier situation.
"Like pulling teeth from a tiger," Eugene manager Roy Howell said.
The Ems did manage to finish off a 6-5 victory over Yakima, but not before the Bears put a scare into each Emerald and the 4,641 in attendance at Civic Stadium on Sunday evening. Yakima scored four runs in the ninth and had the tying run at third base with one out before Phil Avlas grounded into a double play to end the game.
