SPRINGFIELD - By the time students come back to school on Sept. 3, new Springfield Superintendent Nancy Golden will have shaken hands with every district employee and thanked them for what they do for kids.
By winter break, she'll have brushed up on her Spanish enough in weekly private lessons to have a real conversation with the district's Latino students.
And at the end of the year, she'll have spent at least one day each week - Fridays, she's guessing - out of the office, inside the schools.
These are her promises - a few of them, anyway - and she'll keep them, say those who know her well.
