Nathan Cook, 16, of Eugene and Danae Brown, 15, of Springfield were among seven Eugene School of Karate competitors participating in the American Shudokan Association's Tournament for Higher Education last week in Yakima, Wash. Cook, holder of a first-degree black belt and a junior at Churchill High School, has studied the martial art for seven years. At Yakima, he took two firsts, a second and a fourth place and was named Junior Grand Champion in sparring. Brown, who holds a brown belt rank, placed second in Kata (forms) for her age group.
