Nov. 13--GRANITE CITY, Ill.--Wrecking balls demolished the tower.
A crowd watched the demolition Wednesday of a 110-year-old tower at the former National Enameling and Stamping Co. after a fire Oct. 27 left it unstable.
Roy Baumberger, 80, of Granite City, remembered how, as a child, he would ride his bike to the factory to bring his father dinner when he was working late. Baumberger's father served as the machine shop foreman at the company, working there for 30 years until it closed in 1956.
