A series of images on his Web site illustrate televangelist Garner Ted Armstrong's belief that current events and ancient prophecy portend the world's imminent demise: World Trade Center towers in flames, an open Bible, goose-stepping soldiers, a newspaper headline that blares "Special forces prepare attack."
The newspaper happens to be The Register-Guard.
It may not be a coincidence, considering that Armstrong, who died this week in Texas from complications of pneumonia, grew up in Eugene. He was 73.
Armstrong's father, Herbert W. Armstrong, founded the Worldwide Church of God in Eugene in 1933. ...
