Nov. 14--Despite tight state education budgets and a skeptical political climate, University of Central Florida leaders agreed Thursday to study the costly idea of building a medical school in Orlando.

Politicians responded by saying Orlando probably would be a great place for one, but finding the money for it could leave UCF looking down a long road.

The Board of Trustees endorsed a study after President John Hitt pitched a future UCF school of medicine as a way to heal area medical needs, lure large research grants and boost the university's reputation.
