Nov. 16--More than 30 juice plants once dotted the Rio Grande Valley, citrus farmer Jimmie Steidinger recalls. Today only one remains.
Orange juice prices are at their lowest in 15 years, plagued by everything from international competition to a glut of juice on the market.
"I've got orange juice showing in my eyes," said Steidinger, chairman of the only surviving juice plant, Texas Citrus Exchange.
Instead of selling about $30 million worth of orange juice a year, Texas Citrus Exchange in Mission brings in about half that amount because of the low prices, ...
