Fred Astaire, born Fred Austerlitz in Omaha, Neb. in 1899, was destined to become a legend. Fred and his sister, Adele, formed a dance team in the early years, one that achieved ever growing popularity until 1932, when Adele decided to leave musical comedy and settle down to raise a family.
Fred immediately went solo and his ongoing Broadway, movie and television career would make him one of the most respected and loved personalities of tap dancing would never be the same.
