One of the great documents of human freedom, the Emancipation Proclamation, will be on view at Central Library's Getty Gallery December 5th - 8th.
On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which aided the process of dismantling the institution of slavery in the United States. According to the National Archives, the five-page document, was originally tied with narrow red and blue ribbons, which were attached to the signature page by a wafered impression of the seal of the United States.
