Nov. 17--Lexington's economy got a big boost from horse sales this year.
Even without a premium yearling sale in July and without the hundreds of yearlings lost to mare reproductive loss syndrome, sales at Keeneland were up 14.2 percent for the year.
Keeneland's sales, which concluded with the November Breeding Stock sale that ended Thursday, grossed $562,822,200, up from $492,861,500 in 2003.
The year was full of steady gains from last year: At Keeneland, yearling sales rose 30 percent, 2-year-old racehorse sales rose 21 percent, and breeding stock ...
