Beach-area restaurants have become a specialty of the entrepreneurial duo of Rodolfo Costella and Franco Simplicio.
Their latest acquisition is the two-story building right on the edge of the sand in Malibu at 6800 Westward Beach Road. It previously had been the Gray Whale and, before that, Monroe's and Splash. It will open early next year as the Sunset Restaurant & Beach Bar.
Costella of Ca' Del Sole in North Hollywood and Simplicio of Allegria in Malibu have within a year or so successfully taken over and transformed Moonshadows in Malibu from mediocrity to distinction and more recently opened Frascati in Redondo Beach.
