Emma listened patiently as a new friend read aloud from "The Adventures of Taxi Dog" Saturday at Oakbrook Center.
It's a story Emma had heard before, but the Shetland sheepdog didn't mind.
For years, Emma and other dogs belonging to members of the Delta Society's Pet Partners Program have listened to school children read aloud - a program designed to boost kids' reading levels in a non-threatening environment.
"This program is really catching on throughout the country," said Becky Jankowski, program coordinator of Kids READ, or Reading Education Assistance Dogs.
