KANIYOLA, Democratic Republic of Congo _ As night falls in the eastern Congo, a wave of fear settles across this village. "I don't sleep in my house anymore," said Deodone Kwale, 47, a farmer.
Five months after a peace accord brought a power-sharing government to office in the capital of Kinshasa, Hutu rebels from Rwanda still inhabit the emerald hillsides. They rustle cows. They loot houses. They kidnap girls and press them into sexual slavery. And they're considered the biggest threat to the tenuous peace effort to bring peace to this nation of 56 million after more than seven years of civil war.
