Resistance to gay marriage is growing on Beacon Hill just one day after the state's highest court handed down a historic decision legalizing such weddings as state pols turn to "civil unions" as an alternative.
Gov. Mitt Romney is leading the charge for civil unions, which would bestow certain rights to gay couples but deny marriage licenses.
But advocates and legal analysts say civil unions fall short of the court's ruling.
