The task force responsible for publishing the third, revised edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III-R; American Psychiatric Association, 1987) included for the first time a separate entry for children with developmental perceptual-motor problems. The term chosen to classify these children was developmental coordination disorder (DCD; see Note 1).
