Article: Reading comprehension skills of young adults with childhood diagnoses of dyslexia.(Reading)

Few studies have evaluated the reading performance of adults with a childhood diagnosis of dyslexia (CD). In those studies available, however, the general finding is that adults with CD continue to experience persistent deficits in single-word recognition (Ben-Dror, Pollatsek, & Scarpati, 1991; Booth, Perfetti, MacWhinney, & Hunt, 2000; Bruck, 1992; Lefly & Pennington, 1991; Leong, 1999; Maughan, 1995). They also retain impairments on processes that underlie word recognition abilities, such as phonological processing (Bruck, 1990, 1992, 1993; however, see Snowling, Bishop, & Stothard, 2000) and rapid automatized naming (Decker, 1989; Felton, Naylor & Wood, 1990). ...
