Odd rock formations and strange-looking trees give this national park an otherworldly feel. The trees, which grow up to 30 feet tall and have bizarrely shaped branches, inspired both the park's name and the name of a popular U2 album. This park contains parts of two deserts--the Mojave and the Colorado--and five oases. The varied climates make the park habitable for a wide variety of plants and animals. Though it did not receive national park status until 1994, people have enjoyed this area for thousands of years. ...
