The following program descriptions, selected from NLC's Examples of Programs for Cities database, highlight innovative city park and recreation programs.
Some cities have restored historic parks or converted alleys into parks. Some have fashioned parks out of recycled construction debris, reclaimed landfills, and preserved wetlands.
Others have made parks accessible to citizens with handicaps, dog lovers, and skateboarders.
These programs may result from master planning efforts involving the whole community, public/private partnerships, or intergovernmental cooperation.
