A NEW study says women who eat a lot of processed carbohydrates during early pregnancy could put their unborn child at greater risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida. This follows warnings that women on a high protein diet (like the Atkins) could also put their baby at risk. AMY ANDERSON asked Brigid McKevith from the British Nutrition Foundation to separate fact from fiction.
