"For the love of God," I thought, "he is just a boy."
The young man sitting at the table next to us at Jake's still had pimples on his face and a body that had not yet matured. He was, by dress and manner, still in his teens. Jake's, a sort of bistro just north of Menomonie, is one of our favorite spots to eat when we are on our way up to see the grandchildren in the Twin Cities.
The usual drill is for us to leave Madison around 3 in the afternoon, drive into Menomonie and check into a motel. We go out to dinner and then back to the motel and get up early in the morning for the short drive into the cities. We vowed never ...
