Moody's Investors Service has upgraded the ratings of China Merchants Bank (CMB): its bank financial strength rating to D from D- and its long-term foreign currency deposit and senior debt ratings to Ba1 from Ba2. The ratings outlook is stable. The upgrade concludes a review of CMB that began in October 3, 2003. The ratings upgrade reflects CMB's above-peer profitability stemming from a growing franchise, its progressive management, more established operating infrastructure, and emphasis on risk management system.
