In author Martin Amis' new novel, Yellow Dog, the British tabloid press comes in for quite a beating.
In what amounts to a catalog of outrage, Amis has the fictional Morning Lark not just titillating its readers (referred to by the paper's staff as ``wankers'') with a steady barrage of lewd photos of bosoms and bottoms, he also has the paper's ``best'' reporter, Clint Smoker, setting up a rape and assault involving a drunken, violent over-the-hill soccer player.
One might think that the British author is settling old scores for the rough treatment he has received from the tabloids, but in a phone ...
