Eleven gold medals were awarded at the 1991 Southwest Wine Competition held in Albuquerque in April at the 10th Annual New Mexico Grape Growers and Wine Makers Conference. Bill de Vries, Albuquerque wine consultant and chairman of the judging, said 38 medals in all were awarded amounting to over one-third of the 103 entries. "Each state represented got at least one medal," de Vries said. The entries came from New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Utah. The golds went to seven wineries, including Fall Creek Winery, Austin, Texas, for Sauvignon blanc; Gruet, Albuquerque, Blanc de Noirs non-vintage champagne; Llano Estacado, Lubbock, Texas, 1988 Cabernet Sauvignon and ...
