Southland hotel occupancy rate posts hefty 8% plunge in March

Hotel occupancy in Los Angeles County plunged in March, taking one of its biggest drops ever, according to the latest available monthly report on the industry by the Los Angeles office of Pannell Kerr Forster, the international accounting firm.

The company said hotel room occupancy throughout the county dropped 8 percent from March 1990 to 62.5 percent. The figure continues a slide that started 18 to 24 months ago and reverses a slight improvement in December's report.

But just as the December rate may have been an anomaly, the March performance may not be as serious as the numbers ...
