THAT MAGIC MIDNIGHT! Although almost a decade ago, thousands of South Africans remember standing outside civic centers throughout the land, black and white together, whilst clocks struck and bugles sounded, watching the frayed standards of the old oppressive apartheid regime fall to the ground, and the brightly colored flag of the new democratic South Africa rising slowly on flag poles. Free at last! We sang. We danced. We wept. We prayed.
How did the miracle happen? What enabled that fairly peaceful liberation from centuries of political and religious oppression? Why no Northern Ireland or Israel or Angola scenario?
