Dec. 3--Merant said Tuesday that ongoing cost cutting enabled it to earn $1.44 million, or 1 cent a diluted share, in the second quarter ended Oct. 31. It was the company's highest after tax profit in more than five years.
The gain compared with a loss of $6.31 million, or 6 cents a diluted share in the same period last year.
Gerry Perkel, chief executive of Hillsboro-based Merant, said sales growth was still lackluster as corporate clients kept a tight rein on spending for information technology. Merant's software helps companies track changes they make ...
