Rhonda Kliest rescued Joe, an Alaskan malamute, after his owner dumped him off at a pound, breaking one of the dog's legs while hauling him from the truck.
Taking care of an Alaskan malamute, however, requires some special skills. So, Kliest welcomed about a dozen members of the nonprofit Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association and their dogs into her house in Winfield Sunday for a training seminar. The nonprofit rescue group provides shelter and care for the powerful malamute, one of the oldest American breeds used to pull heavy loads.
