Amite firm plans expansion of its apparel company
Amite County supervisors agreed to lease the county-owned Kellwood building to Freedom Industries through December at $300 a month. In the meantime, the uniform manufacturer will add a new building to its plant in the Liberty Industrial Park.
Manager Marguerite Smith said Freedom will add a 9,000-square-foot cutting room behind the 10,000-square-foot plant, adding more sewing machine operators in the process. The company has already boosted employment from 80 to 97, and will probably top out at 125.
