There are encouraging signs that E. & J. Gallo is on track for doing the right thing with Louis M. Martini in Napa. According to reports, Gallo is moving to refocus production at Martini on red wine, especially Cabernet Sauvignon. Sources say that grapes from new and old growers poured into the winery during harvest. There are also unconfirmed reports that a new brand--made at Martini--will be released early in 2004.
Gallo will drop the Martini California appellation line to concentrate on Napa and Sonoma wines. Out of Martini's approximately 150,000 case production in 2002, some 80,000 cases were in that $10 per bottle line. Production levels will remain about ...
