It seemed to take forever but Americans are just now waking up to the way of the rest of the drinking world; sparkling wine is for everyday consumption. While it's no-brainer for big ticket celebrations, a non-event like, let's say, "Hey! It's Tuesday evening!" is now considered reason enough to pop a cork, especially among freewheeling young urbanites. Perhaps sparkling wines are making headway against a 21st century growth problem; last year, sparklers in the US reversed a two year decline, although sales levels are still below the go-go 1990's
