What Some Are Doing About Pay Today
Pay can be a many-splendored thing, echo a handful of cable operators who are testing the premium TV packaging waters to deepen penetration.
Last week in our page one special report, "Pay Packaging Plans Proliferate," a dozen different operators were in the initial throes of testing new packaging schemes to boost pay sales.
While their strategies varied vastly, most had one thing in common, the discounting -- sometimes deep -- of one or more premium services with the goal of boosting overall volume.
Still unknown, of course, is the effect on operators' margins and whether the discounting will decrease ...
