Dec. 11--PROVIDENCE, R.I.--After six years in operation, the state's $4-million Samuel Slater Technology Fund has new management.
But the program is facing criticism from a local government watchdog, Rhode Island Common Cause, which says the fund is not open enough to public scrutiny.
For the first time in its history, the Slater fund -- which received $4 million in state money this year -- is being managed by a stand-alone nonprofit organization with its own separate board of 11 directors.
