2003 DEC 15 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Surfactant protein D (SP-D) is high in cystic fibrosis (CF) patient serum and relates to overall lung dysfunction, but is unchanged in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, although IgE is increased with the fungal infection.
SP-D "interacts with Aspergillus fumigatus and is strongly increased in the lavage from animals with acute allergic reactions to the fungus, suggesting a central role for SP-D. As the course of CF is often complicated by an allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), the authors hypothesized that SP-D may also be increased in human serum during an ABPA, potentially assisting in its diagnosis ...
